Nex-n5 video features

The Nex-5n is an exciting camera from a video perspective. Its headline video features are AVCHD 2nd generation recording format at 1080 / 60p, 24p, auto-focus during video, low noise and a huge aps-c sensor. some of the often overlooked features are...

Some of the other video features that are often overlooked are
  • Touch to focus, did someone say touch based focus racking?! Yes!
  • Focus tracking, touch what you want and it will follow
  • Dual mode attachable video mic with 180deg and 90de patterns (really doesn't suck even though its a small one)
  • Manual controls during video
The number one overlooked thing for video however is the Nex-5 lenses! Sony has made much ado about their new 'Active steady shot' built into some of the lenses without providing a decent explanation as to what it does.

Active steady shot is similar to normal image stabilization however the internal lens movement rage covers an area about 10x larger when it is in active mode (just like sony's handicams) that way as opposed to smoothing out camera vibrations only, it can really take a lot of the shake off a walking shot or a long zoom video shot. Its a simply huge feature that is often ignored! Currently this feature is only available in the 18-200mm nex lens.

Finally the upcoming 50mm f1.8 OSS is going to be huge, it will have great dof and you will be able to shoot handheld due to the steady shot.

So get out there, get a Nex-5n and shoot some video!
